She was married last year, and came home over the summer for a vacation. Her family threw a reception for her and her new husband and I went to the party and finally got to meet the new man in her life. It had been years since we had seen each other, but it felt like days. Now her father and his sweetie are going to visit them, and they wanted to bring a present. So I get a call to gather some Epicure Selections products. I decided to send a card with a note to my friend and this is the card I came up with. Amie gave me some stencils for Christmas and I used one of them on this 3½x6" card. I used my MM Slice to cut the word "Friends" with shadowing. And embellished with some dew drops. The card is much nicer in real life!

Christmas 2009

I'm making no apologies for my absence. Let's just say life got in the way and leave it at that!

This was my favourite card I made for Christmas this year. When I said in my last post that I was going to get a jump on Christmas, I did to a certain extent. I did manage to make about 30 cards by October - major accomplishment! But this card was made the week before Christmas!!! I love it's simplicity. If you like clean-and-simple card, check out this blog. Susan's work has completely inspired me and caused me to change my style of cardmaking! In any case, I did 3 designs of Christmas cards (but managed to photograph only 1) and all 3 designs were single layer cards! Love it! This card was made with a combination of Stampin' Up stamps and some other unnamed ones from my inheritance! The die cut is a Stampin' Up Sizzlet.

Christmas in August?

I am getting a jump on Christmas this year... at least my Christmas cards. I'll never get a jump on my Christmas shopping! lol I have been thinking about what I should do for this year's card and realized that I didn't post last years card. My inspiration came from Splitcoast Stampers, of course! It's using the Stampin' Up set "Lovely as a Tree". I didn't think I would like that set at first, but turns out I was wrong! Love it!

So I have offered to do a "Stamp-a-Stack" class at the Military Family Resource centre and I am thinking this may be one of the cards we will do. It looks much more difficult than it really is. I just need to take a trip to St. John's and get the supplies. Turns out we are going in this weekend for the John Prine concert, so that works out nicely.

The other card I am contem- plating is this red ornament card. But I don't know if I want to do something that uses the same techniques, so I am unsure. Any thoughts?

So yesterday I started a Facebook group to try and get together some paper crafters in Gander. I would love to have a club of sorts so that we can exchange ideas, share tools and just get together for a laugh or two! We'll see what falls out of that!

Oh well, gotta get back to my real job! :~)

We had another wedding to attend this summer and it was phenominal! Pete's neice, Amanda, wanted to be married down south. But many of the friends and family she wanted to attend couldn't make it. So she brought "down south" home! Have a look at these pics. How cool is that??? The wedding was on a Thursday night, and it was very simple and elegant. I wanted my card to convey the simple and elegant theme so I chose to make a white card. I love the way it turned out. I can't wait to see her again, I haven't seen her in years!

Scrapping again...

Yesterday's storm was the kick in the pants I needed to do some scrap- booking again. And even though I only completed 1 page, it was rejuvenating! I haven't done any scrapbooking since Shaelin was born, so this is the beginning! I have tons of pictures to scrap, it's going to be fun!

The paper used here was some I bought at the Creative Crop Shoppe before it closed. I really miss that place, not for the products but for our regular Thursday night crops. If anyone wants to get something on the go here in Gander, count me in. Anyway, the paper is Wild Asparagus, I believe. I punched the letters using my Cuttlebug and the Hippy Chick letter dies. The flower is dollar store variety, as is the ribbon. The colours are a little washy, I am using a new camera and I don't have it all figured out yet.

I think I may use this layout when I do a Scrapbooking course for the Military Family Resource Centre. The layout is from http://www.pagemaps.com. I wanted to use a layout so that newbies can see how easy it is to adapt a sketch to their pictures and accessories. I think I succeeded with this one!

Later,

Sympathy

Once again I find myself blogging with a Sympathy card. We had a tragic death in the family. Pete's cousin was killed in a car accident yesterday. She was only 19. The accident happended in Nova Scotia where she was attending university. She was a member of the Celtic Fiddler's and a wonderful singer. Total shame.

This card was made with "Close as a Memory". The flowers were embossed with clear embossing powder, then the card was sponged with 2 different colours of ink - beige and rust. The area around the sentiment was left plain. I think it give the card a soft look. The scary thing about this was that I was making this card before I knew about the accident. I try to make a few Sympathy cards at a time so that when the need arises, I have some on hand. That kinda freaked me out, and now I'm a little afraid to make any more.

Oops, I forgot to give credit to this card. I cased it from a card on Splitcoast Stampers found here. A dear friend of ours passed away quite suddenly, he was a musician first and fore most. His funeral reflected his passion for music and was a wonderful tribute to a man that touched many lives. RIP Ivan.

This card is made using the Stylized flowers cuttlebug embossing folder, nestabilities and bazzill paper. I love the green and brown together. The stamps on the outside of the card are Studio G, and the inside sentiment is a Hero Arts stamp that says "Just to let you know you are in my thoughts today". I thought it was appropriate.

Well, Amie is on her way out - we are having her first Stampin' Up party here in Gander! Can't wait to see what she has in store for us, although she's shown me some samples so I have an inkling what it will be! It's still exciting though! And all my friends will get to meet Shaelin and Chase - many have not met either of them yet, seen lots of pictures though!

Must go finish sweeping and getting ready! Hope to have more cards to post later.

Sandra

Inspired by a Tissue Box

It's funny how the weirdest things can inspire you. My daughter, Amie (who is now a Stampin' Up demonstrator, by the way) mentioned once about the pretty patterns on tissue boxes and this one in particular caught my eye. The card is a lavendar Bazzill and the butterflies (from my inheritance of Crazy Stamps) are stamped on watercolour paper then watercoloured! The striped oval is cut and embossed with the petite scallop nestabilities from a Life brand tissue box. The colurs of the rest of the card were inspired by the stripes. The sentiment stamp is a See-D's stamp, as is the sentiment on the inside of this card.

This was made for my very good friend, Marg. And brilliant me forgot to take a picture before I gave it to her. Luckily she keeps all her cards, like me, so it was easy to get a snap of it! Thanks, Marg.

Sympathy

I'm a bad blogger! :( Seems I can't get into the swing of doing this often. But then again, I haven't made many cards lately either. Unfortunately, most cards I have made lately have been sympathy cards.

This card is made using the Fiskars texture plates in my Cuttlebug. It's the first time I've used my texture plates, I couldn't get the hang of the dinky tool that came with them. But I'm quite pleased with the way they turned out in the Cuttlebug.

The best news, though, is that Amie is thinking about becoming a Stampin' Up Demonstrator! That is the next best thing to me doing it! I promise to contribute to your business! How soon can you get your kit, Amie??? lol

Welcome Shaelin!

Today, our newest family member arrived. I haven't seen her in years, and was saddened to hear of the news. I had this card made, and decided that it fit. I did go to the funeral, and then had a short visit with her afterwards. As sad as it was, it sure was good to see her again.

The birdhouse is a Studio G stamp that I coloured with coloured pencils and blended with a Dove blending pen. I wish I could get some Copic markers around here! Gonna have to book me a course on the mainland soon! Not many other details on this. The sentiment on the inside (not shown here) was stamped with a stamp I made with my stamp kit I got for Christmas. I have found that I cannot get the stamp I want for a sympathy card, so I made my own. The sympathy stamp on the outside is from my "inheritance" and is by Crazy Stamps.

That's it for today!
Sandra

Happy Anniversary

Saturday was Mom & Dad's 43rd wedding anniversary. And while I was in St. John's seeing Abby off to PEI and Aiden off to camp, I didn't forget their special day. I even managed to squeak in a phone call before the day was over. So Amie and I decided to make cards for them. I chose to case this card by Asela Hopkins. Her new set called "Botanical Dreams" is my new favourite, and I would love to own them!

The flowers are from the dollar bin at Michael's, and had a sentiment attached to the bottom of the stamp. I cut the sentiment off, so now I have 2 stamps. The HA sentiment is an acrylic one that Amie had, and I'd venture to say that it is a Studio G Clear Stamp from Michael's dollar bin, too. We bought the pearls at Michael's this weekend, they are K&Company I think. I was really pleased with the way this card turned out. It is stamped then embossed with black embossing powder. Then it's coloured with white crayon. I then used a small sponge and picked up some nectarine Colorbox Chalk ink, and then some moss green and smooshed all over the flowers. The colour is then rubbed off the flowers. Lovely!

Card for Teacher

I am ashamed that I haven't contributed to my blog since April. Good grief.... it's been a crazy spring! Thank goodness everything is winding down. Now all I have to keep me on my toes is my expected grand-daughter. We expect her to be born on July 10th (Amie is scheduled for a c-section, so we pretty much have the date nailed down!) However, leading up to that is going to be crazy busy too. Abby is headed off to PEI on Saturday, while Aiden goes to Cub camp on Friday. Thus begins the carting around kids! But enough of that, on to the card. My inspiration comes from Michele Kovack here. As you can see, I did a pretty good job of casing her card! Thanks, Michele! I really liked this card. This will be used for Aiden's teacher, who's been a saint this year! I did the background with a stamp I bought at A Buck or Two. It's a Laura Ashley stamp and it's about 4" square. I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line it up and create a full front stamp for this card. The Thank You is by Inkadinkadoo, and the flower is Clear Stamps by Studio-G. The glassy things came from Dollarama, as did the paper on the inside.

Well, tonight I am going to make a stamp - only the second one I've made since I got my kit for Christmas. I hope it works out, the Pathfinders will be using it to make t-shirts on their PEI trip like the ones here.

Thanks for your patience with my willy-nilly posting!

Thanks

It's often inadequate to just say "Thanks". Hopefully, this card will express my gratitude to a friend who recently hosted 2 Epicure parties. It was made using my brand new (thank you Amie!) Cuttlebug - which I'm not supposed to use until my birthday next week, but don't tell Pete! lol The scalloped circled is embossed on a creamy coloured paper, and I inked the embossing folder with Burnt Sienna cat's eye chalk. The circle is coloured using the same tones and muddied with the same tone chalk around the edge. The ribbon slider is from one of my new Cuttlebug sets. Love it!

Well, we are off to Guide camp this weekend. I hope the weather holds out. We plan to hike somewhere and place our cache that we have been trying to hide since last fall. Winter came so early and so fierce that it hasn't been fit to be hiking around the woods. So Saturday morning we are going to hide it. Hopefully we'll get some action after we post the coordinates! The girls are pretty excited! Oh, I'm tired already! Aiden is going to camp, too. So that leaves Pete and Abby on their own. I expect a clean and shiny house and supper cooked on Sunday! haha

Sweet Baby

A friend and fellow Guider recently had a baby boy. I really liked a card made by Melanie Muenchinger found here. Unfortunately, I didn't have a stork image, but I adapted what I do have. The baby stamp is from my "inheritance"! Some of you will remember that last year my brother and his wife bought a house that they had been house sitting. At the time I was in Toronto on course and was itching to go to a Scrapbooking store. Well, I was staying at a hotel in an industrial area and the nearest Scrapbooking store was a $27 cab ride each way. I weighed my odds, and figured I could get a lot of supplies for $54 so I stayed put and sulked! It was during my sulking that my brother emailed me and said that he found a box of stamps down in the basement and that if I didn't want them he was going to throw them in the garbage. Well, that was a prize indeed. I returned home the next day and shortly after arriving Sheldon and Melanie started bringing in boxes. My "inheritance" totalled approximately 150 stamps, papers, inkpads, cleaning solution, envelopes, a stamp-a-ma-jig of another brand name with the placement papers, and a duplicating machine to duplicate your card pattern using tubes of ink which were included. Talk about 7th heaven! The stamps all seem to come from a company in Alberta called Crazy Stamps. I think the previous owner must have been a demonstrator. I've since removed all the stamps from their wooden blocks and mounted them on EZ Mount foam. The are stored in CD cases, and I am in the process of stamping the image on the CD case with Stazon. It's somewhat organized currently. I have shared much of the stash with my daughter, Amie. At the time she wasn't too interested in the stamps, but I think she has changed her tune lately. I am sending some stamps to her this week, we can rotate those as necessary. I am very grateful for my "inheritance", and am happy to share!

Amie's 25th Birthday

This is the card I did for Amie's birthday. The technique for the flowers came from TV Weekly where Tamara Berg is doing a show called "Chip Decor". The flowers were first printed (because I didn't have a nice stamp or outline to use) on overhead transparency then cut out and held over a lit candle to shape the petals. It was really fun to make it. I just used a page of text for the background of both the transparency and the white background. I know Amie liked the card. Now I just wish her birthday gift would arrive!

Uncle Joe & Aunt Nicole's Wedding

This was one of the hardest cards I have ever made. I just couldn't get into the groove. I think I've lost my mojo :( I bought the shimmery cardstock at the Paperie while I was in St. John's this past weekend, and Amie had the Bride and Groom stamps from Studio G. She hadn't planned on using them for Joe and Nicole's wedding card, so I snagged them! I really like them, and I love the card Amie made with them but I was just as glad she didn't use them! The images are stamped in black on white cardstock. The Bride's dress is embossed using liquid embossing by Plaid. It's popped up on vellum which has silver flowers on it and then popped up on brown Bazzill. The strip across the bottom is scalloped using the medium corner rounder. The pewter frame adds an elegant touch, don't you think? Thank goodness it's done!

Easter Treat Box

This is a little treat box we made for the kids friends and teachers for Easter. They are little bunnies that have a York peppermint pattie in them. I thought it would be a nice after-dinner mint and perhaps would go over well at the sale. I think there are 34 of them in all. Too cute! The idea is not my own, no surprise there! I was inspired by Diane Zechman, you can see her bunnies here. Thanks, Diane, for the inspiration. And the Gander Pathfinders thank you too!

Suitcase card

My nephew, Ryan, is going to Europe on Tuesday and I wanted to wish him a safe and memorable trip. I made this card to look like a suitcase with a luggage tag. I think it's similar! I am going to try to throw a few euros in it and deliver it to him on Monday. Marjorie took those pictures and put them on Amie's blog, but I just had to have them to scrap! Fortunately, the size was sufficient to develop (just had to remove the nasty yellow date from the corner!) The pages continue from one to the other and are meant to look like a film reel, or a section of photo negatives. Not much embellishment needed - Chase is cute enough without embellishments. I do love the Heidi Swapp words "Grin" and "Chuckle". I've used them on cards in the past, and I love them on the scrapbook pages. The little hearts between pictures are rubons.

The second set of pages are of our Labour Day weekend trip we took to Grand Falls on quad last summer. It was the only camping trip we had done because Pete had started a new job earlier in the spring and didn't have much holiday time. The campgrounds were pretty much desserted on the tent side so we had a quiet weekend. It was lovely. We had a campfire with wiennies and marshmallows. But we had stayed only one night because we had a major rainstorm move through on Friday and Saturday. We probably could have drove out, but who wants to set up a tent in the rain?!?

The last set of pages I did were of the first Relay for Life that we did as a group of Guiders. I wanted to capture how long the night was and how tired we all got. The timeline shows just that I think. I love the picture of Marg with the tissues in her ears - the music was so loud we could hardly talk, so she solved that - for herself anyway! We were inside the Community Centre for the whole time but that didn't stop us from having a campfire - after all, that's what Girl Guides do best! The campfire was one that we use inside the hut. It's electric, but we used glowsticks in it to make it light up. Sandy was really pretending to warm her feet!

And then exhaustion began to set in! I remember how tired I felt, I didn't know until later how tired I looked. Heather Moss didn't make it through the night without having a little nap! And in the end, our numbers were much smaller than when we started. But it was lots of fun, and a tradition we will surely continue.

We had a fantastic day yesterday scapping with the gals! Sandy, Marg, Abby and I spent the whole day creating, laughing, gossiping, eating, but mostly creating. I managed to do three 2-page layouts and these two cards. The first one is for my friend Lindsay, who, obviously, is expecting a baby! We are having a shower for her Wednesday night. The stamp is from Michael's dollar bin. I stamped the image first on patterned paper, then cut out her outfit. Then I stamped her again on cardstock and glued her outfit on her. I love that effect!

The second card is a sympathy card for my hairdresser. Her mother passed away last week. I popped out 3 of the flowers and raised the sentiment. I haven't stamped the inside yet. I need to decide what to put there. I find the hardest part of Sympathy cards is the sentiment for the inside.

Later I will take some pictures of my layouts and post. I'm really quite pleased with the way they turned out! The first is done on the same brown Bazzil paper as the Card Keeper with a tapestry ribbon to match. The lettering is irridescent letters that shine an orangeish pinkish colour.

The blue card is using an embossed paper which I bought at the Paperie in St. John's a while back. the round stamp is by Hero Arts and the "happy birthday" stamp is part of a set of acrylic stamps by Inkadinkado that Amie gave me last Christmas that she got at Costco. I love that set.

The last card is made using a set of stamps I picked up at Michaels in the $1 bin. Forget the name of them! The ribbon is velvet and bought in a package with the tapestry ribbon on the brown card and others. It's made by We R Memory Keepers (I think!). I've added a felt flower and put a little bling in the centre.

I know Verna will appreciate these, because she loves the cards I make. It's nice to be able to give those as a gift and know they will be put to good use - maybe. The last cards I gave to Verna, she didn't want to give them away because she really liked them too much! She's so funny!

Card Keeper

It was another great night at our LSS (Local Scrapbooking Store) and this was the fruits of my labour. I loved the card box that Holly did on her site and wanted to try it myself. I think it worked out quite well. I'm going to make some cards to put inside and give it as a gift next week. It's kind of hard to see, but I added some brown bling to the centre of some of the flowers. It really adds to it. I have to thank Marg for the stamp in the centre. It was given from one friend to another, and used in the spirit of which it was given! Thanks, Marg.

I noticed this floral paper last Thursday night, and I've been thinking about how to use it ever since. I really like the colour combination. I'll post the other cards as I complete them.

Big Scalloped Birthday

This is a card that I made for a co-worker last March. It was a simple card to make - the paper was already embossed, and I cut the scalloped circles using my notch die (fondly refered to as my slot cutter!) Verna's birthday is quickly approaching so it's time to get on the ball and make some more for her. I think I am going to make a card box like on Toy's website (see my fav links) and make some cards to put in it. Verna loves receiving cards that she can use for others. Cards like this will be much easier to make now that I have both the Giga and Mega scalloped circle punch by Marvy....love it!

In the beginning...

This is the beginning of something wonderful... I hope. I like the blogs that other paper crafter's have created to showcase their work and I would like to do the same. I'm sure it won't be the same frequency, though!
My favourite craft is card making, second place goes to scrapbooking. I haven't yet been hit by the ATC bug, but anything can happen.

Here is the latest card I've made. I have to say it is probably one of my favs. I cased this card from Diane Zechman here. Love her work! I used this card for sister-in-law Melanie's 29th birthday. The colours are a little brighter than in this picture. The flowers were stamped using some foam stamps from the Crop Shoppe, I don't know the name of them. The largest flower has an acrylic bubble in the centre. The white card stock is embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder.
